Magazine Testing Continues—MAY 14, 2006
Range Conditions—56 degrees and Cloudy, Light Wind
If you've been following the story, things ended well yesterday. I found another box of Eley Pistol Match (this stuff must be ancient!) and figured that would be a torture test if ever there was one. After the usual shenanigans cropped up again, I made another discovery - the feeding problem is caused by a round getting jammed in the internal guides in the magazine. This may have, once and for all, solved my feeding problems. Well, once and for all - for now…
UPDATE—JUNE 2006
I have put in the neighborhood of 1000 rounds through the pistol since I’ve worked out this loading routine without a single failure to feed or extract. Solved !!

This photo clearly shows the short internal guide rails in the RBA magazine. Only the top two of the five rounds are located positively. |
|
Note the gap between the first and the second rounds, and the difference in feed angle. This is a mild case, the second round is sometimes perpendicular to the back of the magazine. |
|
Here I have “flicked” the second round upwards; it results in a much closer alignment of all 5 rounds. There is a definite positive mechanical clink-type reaction to this little move as the follower “un-sticks”. |
|
Here is a side view of the desired configuration—all rounds are at a similar angle and the follower moves freely with a little thumb pressure. |
