Mixed bag at the range yesterday. This is turning into something that bears a disturbing resemblance to work
.
First, the CM-22 accessories. The magazine functioned flawlessly, no malfunctions of any kind. I'll be buying another! The barrel weights made a significant, and I do mean significant difference in Rapid Fire, without upsetting the balance for Slow Fire. There is almost no movement of the dot using Wolf Match Extra. I am holding the 9-ring in RF with trivial ease. Very cool!!
The .45 story continues - the Truglo sight will not hold it's zero. I had it dialed in from a rest, stood up to start training Rapid Fire, and could not see any holes in the paper when I was done with my first string!! Figuring that is was possible that I sucked that bad, I really concentrated hard on the second string - same result, no holes in the target!!
I walked downrange and sure enough, there was a not-bad group high and left about 18 inches from the X-Ring. What the ????? is going on here?
I took three shots from the rest to confirm this result and they also were high and left.
I thought "It must be me" - so I rezero'ed, made absolutely sure I had the lock screw tight, and it happened again
AAARRRGHHH.
Okay, so maybe it is salvageable. I'm thinking that the POS Pardini mount is the culprit, I may have to shim the sight to get the adjustment range in the middle (it seems to be all the way up, perhaps the lock screw is not engaging properly). I made absolutely sure both mount screws were tight. The front screw I had lock-tite applied, no movement. The rear screw (I thought) had to be tightened. I cranked it down with a 3mm T-handle wrench until I realized that the wrench was turning INSIDE the allen screw. DAMN, DAMN, DAMN. Stripped it completely!! I'll have to cut a notch and back it out with a screwdriver, and then figure out which way to shim it.
What really sucks is that the sight may be defective; returning it could pose a problem now that I've damaged a screw. And June 4th is approaching fast. I'll be back on the range tomorrow morning ...
